How to raise a family (while working your craft in this city!)
Ursula Abbott does it all: wife, mom, best friend... TV, film, commercials, musical theatre....
She is an INCREDIBLE woman and we were honored to build her a home on the web.
Check out this exclusive interview (especially if you have doubts that you can't have/do it all)!
For those that don’t know you, tell us a little bit about Ursula!
I don’t have to tell you…. you can just check out UrsulaAbbott.com!!!
The cliff notes? I got my B.F.A. from Penn State. After a short career in music theater, I transitioned over to TV/Film. I hosted a reality show called Girls vs. Boys for three years (one of my favorite projects to date).
What are you currently working on or towards?
I am anxiously awaiting the release of Thirty Minutes, which is a really beautiful and vulnerable short that I was able to work on with one of my best friends (Tricia Paoluccio).
I continue to study with Bob Krakower—which is such an honor and gift! Recently, I also began working with a company of women who are also actresses and moms. We meet on a weekly basis to work on auditions together and brainstorm about creating content, careers and more. Look out for news on this company as we move forward with a name and a few exciting projects this year!
What’s the best thing that’s happened to you from social media?
Connecting with other actors! I love seeing my friends posting pictures of whatever gig they are working on, or images they snap on tour, or just their kids throwing spaghetti on the floor. I feel like I am keeping up with their lives and their journeys even when I don’t have the time to call and say I am thinking of you… I can click “like”. Gosh… maybe I am a lazy friend? Oy.
What's your advice to aspiring artists?
Love your day job! I am the worst waitress ever. EVER! So when I moved to the city, I was a nanny for three different families who were all working actors. It made me happy to be around their kids when auditions were making me crazy. It also gave me a sense of family, while showing me what real working actors' lives looked like in NYC. Before that experience, I had no example of how to raise a family while working your craft in this city.
Eight years ago, I started my own family! Since then, I've tried to keep my work in NYC. I've worked on several films and televisions shows here in the city, and recently, commercial work has also been really fun for me!
When I'm not running to and from auditions and gigs, I'm chasing my kids around Manhattan. I'm also often seen at the Eatery (to visit my workaholic husband)! Check out the Asian chicken salad—it's delish!
Why did you choose CSM to build your website?
My friend Di Ana Pisarri (a life coach and entrepreneur) recommended CSM. When I went to the website, I was impressed by how many other actors and actresses I knew had already worked with Tony and his team. I also really appreciated the way CSM focused on artists and social media. It felt really specific and exactly what I wanted.
What responses have you received from your new website?
Great responses! I keep hearing “the website looks amazing!" I agree. :)
Tony and his team went above and beyond to make my website exactly what I wanted. Above my gratitude for the actual product, I am so thankful for the way CSM guided me through the "creative process."
Toward the end of the design phase, I was having some doubts about a specific aspect. Tony said “We will work until you are happy.” That was so wonderful for me to hear and it gave me the space to feel secure about the final product.
It is wonderful, and magical, and I am so proud of it! You guys put heated seats and wifi in my 'Mercedes' of a website!
Besides UrsulaAbbott.com—where else can we find you online?
