"I've gotten jobs from people who simply went to my site and watched my work."

-Laurie Burke

Laurie Burke is the movie review host for Common Sense Media and the original Google Voice. As you'll see, she's quite the accomplished multi-talent, while always staying down-to-earth and fun!

Beyond your incredible résumé, what are some things we may not know about Laurie Burke?

I'm a proud San Francisco native. I'm also a second generation singer/musician/actor from a tremendously talented family. My mom was in The Villagers (RCA records) back in the day. My Dad's a tremendously talented (and retired) actor. My brother's a professional drummer and film scorer in Maui, and my sister's also a talented musician here in the bay area!

What project(s) are you most excited about right now?

I seriously feel like the luckiest girl in the world. There are so many things—and I'm so thankful.

The biggest thing is that I just finished shooting a supporting role in the upcoming feature film Mr. Invincible. I play Linda—the mother of the main character. I'm opposite some great talents—including Bill Engvall (who plays my ex-husband). It should be out Spring 2016.

I'm also getting hired to sing a lot, do many voice overs and teach voice over! I feel truly blessed and excited. These ARE the days and the best is yet to come... always!!! :)

What’s the best thing that’s happened to you from your website or social media?

I've gotten jobs from people who simply went to my site and watched my work. This is without my agent's direction or any contact from me— which I'm so grateful for!

Also, my social media numbers have grown. It's been amazing connecting authentically with so many people from all over the globe. The support has been amazing. It's so nice to have a website as a front door where people can enter, see what I do and then contact me if they would like to work with me. It's really so wonderful to have a presence that I'm proud of.

What's your advice to aspiring artists—actors, voice over artists, singers, etc?

STUDY! If you really love this, then you'll enjoy studying. You'll want to be the best you can be.

Remember: it’s how you spend each and every moment of your life. If you love to act… ACT! ANYWHERE!!! You don’t have to be in L.A. or N.Y. Just do it as much as you can!

I also believe in continuing to study all things creative. I learned that from my Dad—an amazing actor who is 84 years young, retired, and still learns something new every day. Right now, it’s more piano. Last year, it was painting.

Look...It's MY DAD!!Thx to my brother for finding&posting this pic of him in his acting days. Such a talented &...

You have to really want to do this. Look at it as YOUR TIME and YOUR LIFE. Treat the art, business and colleagues with respect and appreciate and enjoy your time doing it.

Remember: you GET to do this!

Why did you choose CSM to build your website?

I read an article and saw a video that Tony did and immediately was convinced he was the person to take my business to the next level. His optimism and sound advice spoke to me immediately. I also loved his ideas and his promotion of being authentic—to be open and who you are (as opposed to just promoting what you're doing).

To have my true self being represented in what I do (and not seem like just another actress trying to get a gig), is so important to me personally and professionally.

What responses have you received from your new website?

All amazing! Everyone loves the ease of viewing my projects and the simple layout. It looks very professional and fun—which is the combo I hope to also represent! :)

I've been contacted via my website for acting, hosting, voice over and singing! It's so great to have one site for everything! I'm very grateful! :)

Thanks for the kind words, Laurie.

You are the combination of fun and professionalism!
