Audience: 71% of adults. (Pew) Interestingly, 45% of 65+ adults. Grandma is discovering how to connect across distance and decades. However, Generation Z is straying/staying away from the juggernaut.
Reason to Join: Everyone's there—except the hipsters "taking a break". They'll be back, though.

Audience: 18% of the World. (Pew) 78% of active users are on mobile and 77% accounts are outside the U.S.!
Reason to Join: Follow just the people and things you care about! Have direct access to just about anyone. Followers are a benchmark of influence. Why hire this one when that one has 41K followers?!
Trick: Create private lists to monitor clients and competitors. Create public lists as additional resources for your audience. You can follow tweople through lists without actually following them. Sneaky! Just make sure you nurture relationships by actively engaging with your lists and followers.
Instagram: The Modern Picture Book
Audience: 17% of the World. (Pew) Over 90% of the 150 million users are under the age of 35.
Reason to Join: The platform is a great way to share your viewpoints, experiences and creative work. Create rich photos and videos to share everywhere.
YouTube: Anyone Can Be Famous!
Audience: 1 Billion with 80% of traffic outside the US!
Trick: Be sure to fill out the description and tags (or meta-data) for your videos. It will help you show up in search results. Also, be sure to include your web link at the beginning of the description to drive traffic to your site. Learn more here.
Vimeo: Community for Filmmakers
Audience: 18 million members with a focus on quality filmmaking.
Reason to Join: If YouTube was taken out of the equation, the most popular video-sharing service used by bloggers to embed and link to videos is Vimeo (48.7%).
Trick: If you create videos or vlog, Vimeo PRO will give you the highest picture quality at the lowest price. Join for $199/year.
Pinterest: Visual Wishes, Dreams and Loves
Audience: 20 million active monthly users. 4x more women than men!
Reason to Join: Create private boards for development or envisioning. You can also use group boards to collaborate or create a community. Places boards allow you to plan a vacation or share your favorite local spots.
Trick: Avoid posting between 5 - 7 p.m. (it's dinner time). Post between 2 - 4 p.m. or 8 p.m. - 1 a.m. for maximum reach.
Snapchat: Ephemeral Media Texting (some use for sexting...)
Audience: More than 100 million monthly users with 66% using daily.
Reason to Join: It's more fun than just sending a text. Send a photo or video with fun filters, drawings and captions! We can also hop over to a chat or video chat! Since the content disappears, you don't have to use as many filters in terms of privacy control or content quality. Just be careful—your audience can still screen capture anything you share!
Trick: Enable location services and you can add specific filters to your photos. For example, snap "Living for SoulCycle" with their logo!
Spotify: Free Music Player
Audience: Over 40 million users with 10 million paid subscribers.
Reason to Join: Free music! Need I say more? Spotify is also very social. You can follow your favorite creatives and share your music with the world!
Trick: Invite your friends to collaborate on a playlist. Use it for your next party, class or event. Don't forget to share it with your fans and followers!
