"Making silly, honest things that make people laugh... the goods, if you will."
-Erica Lynn Cenci
Erica Lynn Cenci is hysterical. You don't have to take my word for it... check out this interview, then go check out EricaLynnCenci.com!
Why are you an actor?
Because it never really occurred to me that I should be doing anything else. Because every production becomes a mini family and I love being adopted.
What are you most known for?
Driving my parents absolutely bonkers. I mean, playing Bebe in A Chorus Line on tour and at TUTS.
What do you want to be known for?
Making silly, honest things that make people laugh.
What are you currently working on or towards?
Completing the Improvisation Classes at Upright Citizens Brigade—one more to go and then it’s time to apply for advanced study! I’m also working on making a video short with my friend using our childhood diaries as inspiration.
Who’ve been some of the mentors/teachers instrumental to your success?
Mr. Matthews my high school choir teacher, my Aunt Susie, Karen Dearborn the head of the dance department at Muhlenberg College, Lorinda Haver my favorite dance teacher growing up in NJ. They all at some point recognized talents/abilities I wasn’t aware of or had no confidence in and and said, “Hey! Pay attention to this thing because it’s wonderful and it’s working for you.”
If you could offer advice to your younger self (and/or young aspiring actors), what would it be?
Don’t waste time being afraid and weighing all the "What If's". You have infinite time for that as you get older, so focus instead on putting yourself out there. The worst that can happen is that you will get passed over for someone else. So up your chances of being the person they want to work with!
What do you love about the digital age we live in?
My cat has an Instagram account: @therealsullycat. I can get the basic idea of current events in more or less live time.
What do you hate about the digital age we live in?
The pressure to constantly be selling my “brand” by posting shiny crap that will up my likes/friends/pokes/emoticons/tweets. I also hate how certain people can’t have a normal conversation in person anymore—they are glued to their phones.
Why did you choose to “get creative” with us?
Because I know my weaknesses and I do not know how to make a website that will serve me at this stage in my career on my own. Plus, Tony is awesome.
How would you describe the process/experience?
Great—almost too easy. So, I created my own roadblocks (a.k.a. took my sweet time getting my files and docs in order, answering all of the detailed and absolutely necessary questions asked of me). While I didn’t know it at the time, all of that helped me get to the heart of what I want to showcase ...the goods, if you will. I think the end result is an absolute perfect representation of what I offer the world on a daily basis.
What responses or results have you received?
People love it. I have had family and friends say they know it absolutely came from my mind—it sounds like me.
Awesome, Erica!!! Okay… rapid fire:
Favorite Social Network: Instagram
Favorite Musical: The Secret Garden
Favorite Place in NYC: Koronet Pizza
Favorite Person in the World: My husband Bryan.
Is there any last bit of advice you’d like to share?
Tony is legit and takes his work very seriously and it shows. I really believe my new website will help me achieve bigger and better things this year. I’ve finally stepped up my Internet game thanks to him. And his office is very close... so if I break it, I know where to find him!
