As the old saying goes... presentation is everything!
Sheilah Smiley is a bundle of joy—all smiles and laughter. Despite recently losing her mother and brother, Sheilah continues to heal (both herself and the world around her) through acting and comedy.
For those that don’t know you, tell us a little bit about Smiley!
See SheilahDSmiley.com for that answer... just kidding! I love Jesus, helping others, bringing joy to the world through performing, working out, and watching Bruce Lee movies.
What are you currently working on or towards?
I'm creating a grant to honor my brother's legacy. To raise the money, I'm producing a comedy tour this fall!
What’s the best thing that’s happened to you from social media?
Work, bookings, collaborations, admirations, cool celebrities following me and commenting on my posts!
What's your advice to aspiring artists?
Create one plan of action, but make sure it consists of the C5 Complex:
The C5 Complex comes from Chris Gardner, the once homeless, now billionaire who Will Smith portrayed in the movie The Pursuit of Happiness. I'm now executing this concept—and it's working! I can honestly say without all five C's, it doesn't work.
See I had two plans... A and B. Now I wanted plan A more than anything (my dream of being a paid actor/comic) and I only spoke of plan A. However, Plan B took over my life...until I finally got back to my heart and kicked plan B out of my head/house!
My advice to you? Create your plan A (using the C5 complex) and rock it out!
Why did you choose CSM to build your website?
I've been an entertainer for a long time and have worked with tons website developers over the years. No one has ever approached creating a website in the way Creative Social Media does. I love how CSM made this a collaborative effort between myself as the artist and their team. CSM is a heart-centered, online presence innovator and client clarity producer. They helped me to connect with my community and to regularly engage with them.
This experience became a self-revealing journey that helped me to recognize and acknowledge my accomplishments. It provided me with a sense of renewal and helped me to laser focus on my dreams.
What responses have you received from your new website?
I've received awesome love about my website from Facebook friends: actors, writers, playwrights, producers and casting. It's been incredible.
I emailed a ton of industry contacts to announce my new website—and several replied! They said how great the site is, they loved my photos, the design, and many mentioned how the website really captured my spirit!
The best response came from an agent I had been trying to get a meeting with for over a year...
"Hello Sheilah, thanks for reaching out to me. I had the chance to check out your reel. I would love to set up a meeting with you..."
Now, it's important to note that during all the other times I've reached out, I sent her videos of my work. However, at the time I had no website, so they were just YouTube links. As the old saying goes... presentation is everything!
