Chris Blem

"We always need to remain in charge of our own destiny."

-Chris Blem

Chris Blem is a leading man in every sense of the word. He was an awesome client/collaborator and (as you'll soon see) can sing, act AND make you laugh!

For those that don’t know you, tell us a little bit about Chris Blem!

In short, 6-year-old Chris always dreamed of growing up to become a Clown/Magician/Juggler/Puppeteer/Stiltwalker. I’m proud to say that that six year old would be very happy.

I grew up the oldest of seven in Miami, Florida. I would lead my brothers and sister through the mandatory house plays where I would direct, design, and star in all of them. Its been a long time since I made my directing debut, but not much has changed. I'm still doing what I love, I still love my siblings and I'm still living in very small spaces.

What are you currently working on, as well as working towards?

I am currently preparing to begin rehearsals for a concert called Disney on Classic. It’s a concert that features the Tokyo Philharmonic playing some of Disney’s most beloved songs. I am fortunate to be able to return to the concert after having been apart of the 2012 series. This year I get to sing some of my all-time favorites—the Genie from Aladdin and EVERYONE'S favorite, Olaf from Frozen

I’m stoked to return to Japan and super stoked that the concert will be traveling to Taipei and Singapore for the first time. I cant wait to return and see my family at the Philharmonic and eat lots of ramen!

Why did you choose CSM to build your website?

Simple... The work they do is top notch and the team at CSM knows what they are doing. Tony and Maggie are able to capture the essence of the artist through the website and it helps to create a “one-stop shop” for those interested. I hadn't logged into Twitter in two years before I talked to Tony. In fact, I had forgotten my password! He has helped me understand how (and more importantly why) to use these social media platforms as a way to reach a targeted audience. CSM is just the right choice when it comes to this stuff.

What responses have you received from your new website?

My Mom loves it! That's all that matters!!! Joking aside, I had a very strong goal going into this process. Three days after we went live I had achieved that goal. I can’t call it a magic pill but I can say that this website and the work that CSM has done enabled me to reach that goal in an expedited amount of time. I'm really excited to explore all of its possibilities.

What's your advice to aspiring artists?

I had a teacher once tell me “Don't wait for the work to come to you. Create the work.” This has always stuck with me. It's very easy for us, as artists, to feel powerless and to give someone else the keys to our future. I think we always need to remain in charge of our own destiny. I’m a big believer that if you want it bad enough, and are willing to give it all you got, then it is only a matter of time till you find what you are looking for.

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.

What’s your advice to artists about their online presence?

In the few years since college, I have quickly learned the value of an artists' online presence and I have seen its power. I am just now beginning to embracing it. (#NEWBIE)

How many rainy nights have you spent at home stalking YouTube videos of your favorite Elphaba singing "Defying Gravity" or watching Heather Headley sing "Memory" from Cats?! (It's embedded below. You can thank me here.)

We are ALL guilty of it—so why not be in control of our own online presence?

Besides—where else can we find you online?

Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Christian Mingle, JDate, etc. The usual.

If you're really lucky, you might find an angsty status left over from Myspace. Yikes!
