For those that don’t know you, tell us a little bit about Marisa Merliss!

I've been a dancer, actor and fitness model in NYC for several years and have gradually made a transition into the fitness/wellness industry. I'm a certified Personal Trainer, Pilates, BodyArt™ and MELT Method® Instructor. I'm also a Pediatric/Neonatal RN. I've experienced some severe health/orthopedic issues over the years and am very passionate about helping dancers and athletes condition and take care of their bodies to help avoid injury and promote longevity.

What are you currently working on or towards?

I'm continuing my MELT Method® and BodyArt™ training. I want to further develop my skills to help people get out and stay out of pain. In the coming months, I'll be offering some MELT Method® classes and workshops specifically designed for the Broadway community, dancers and pre/postnatal women. Also, I've been a part of several workout video productions over the years and am beginning to develop some of my own workouts for online streaming.

What’s the best thing that’s happened to you from social media?

Over the summer, I started to be more focused on marketing through Instagram. Very soon after, I booked a few fitness modeling jobs (through social media contacts), a few photographers reached out to do shoots, people started to find my classes on Instagram and the attendance went up! I also started a business page on Facebook which has helped draw more students to my classes.

What's your advice to aspiring dance and fitness professionals?

Stick with it and don't take things personally!!! If you truly love it, it's worth the hustle and the ups and downs. Celebrate your personal victories! As you get better at your craft, take pride in who you are as a performer or fitness professional. Don't let other people define your success or value as a professional. Sometimes the jobs will come, and sometimes they won't. All you can do is be prepared for the opportunities and enjoy the ride. I've had some amazing experiences in my career—and they weren't necessarily the ones I sought out! Sometimes you work hard to achieve a certain goal, and when you've put in the work, sometimes things just come to you out of nowhere. Always remember how fortunate you are to be in a profession that involves energy, movement and inspiring people. Also, be nice and play well with others, people like to hire people they enjoy being around.

Why did you choose CSM to build your website?

I loved the sleek, clean web design and the emphasis Tony places on linking the site to social media. I'm not so tech or social media savvy so I was excited to have the help and guidance of somebody who is. I've learned a lot through the process and feel empowered to be able to update the site and improve my social media marketing.

What responses have you received from your new website?

It's been great. We just launched the site so it's mostly been friends and colleagues who have reached out to compliment the design and function.
