Sex and marketing are really not all that different...
Truthfully, it all boils down to relationships—which come in all shapes and sizes. The keys to any positive, lasting relationship are communication and fully sharing your humanity.
Make It All About Them
Don't be selfish. No one likes a braggart or a narcissist. Always make it about your audience. What do they want? How can you please them??
I believe in social karma. Give and ye shall receive.
Marketing is usually to promote and sell, right? Do not make the common mistake of just going for it right at the beginning! You'll scare people away!
First, you have to romance your audience. They have to know, like and trust you before they'll give you anything.
Save your best stuff for behind closed doors—but you're going to have to woo your ideal audience with generosity.
Say What You Want
People can't read your mind. If you want something, ask for it. Make sure you have a CTA (call to action) in your work—even if it's soft and implied.
Share the Outcome
Never sell the process. Sell the outcome. I'll abandon the sex analogy here for something PG—but you can fill in the blanks...
People don't buy the 14-hour flight. They buy the escape to Paradise. Paint a picture of the benefits/results/outcome that you'll provide.
Magic is in the Follow Up
So you got someone to your website? How do you keep them coming back?? The magic is in the follow up.
People who have already said yes once are more likely to say yes again. Social media and email marketing make this easier. Keep that relationship hot!
